"Reasons The IBM Convention is a Must-Attend Event"

Updated: Aug 9

Thank you to IBM British Ring No.25 President Philip Partridge who has contributed reasons to attend in this post. All quotations from the current President Philip Partridge.

I cannot wait until September. I’ve a couple of magic shows throughout the month to review and then the big highlight is of course the IBM British Ring No.25 convention in Llandudno.

As I am an IBM and British Ring No.25 member, I cannot wait. After meeting old and new friends at the IBM picnic this year, I know this weekend is going to be fab. This magic club/society has the friendlest members, though anyone interested in magic wishing to purchase tickets/register can attend the convention. See more on that below.

"I’m biased but I have made lifelong friends from British Ring conventions. It’s the friendliest convention in the world!"

Firstly, you cannot beat Llandudno as a venue. Such a lovely seaside town and an ideal location. My family had a great holiday there last year. I bet the weather will still be blinding (hopefully) and we are by the sea. If anything, the location has made it more cost effective for me personally. As I would have been travelling by car, we have turned the visit into a family mini break. So my wife and daughter will join me and then the room cost isn’t much more for a family room. I will then focus on magic and the girls on the seaside. Still time as well to share some experiences together (perhaps!!).

I booked my IBM ticket quite early, as soon as Llandudno was announced as the new 2024 venue last year. Members get reduced/discounted entry. However, anyone can go and buy tickets if they wish to attend. Tickets are still on sale. And if magic is your thing, perhaps consider buying membership as the many benefits include social events and the monthly "Keyring" magazine which is excellent. This magazine is also used to update members on the convention as the IBM team are very well organised and I have already had emails with the schedule. I can then attend what I wish and the lectures/events are planned not to clash. The schedule also details competitions, shows and other events.

"Unique to the British Ring are our stage & close-up competitions. Apart from the cash prize, the prestige of winning, opens doors to further success in the world of Magic."

As the convention needs volunteers to help and keep it well organised, I have volunteered to be a steward for some events. Nearer the time I will get more details but it all adds to the fun and the experience.

The convention runs from the Friday 13th to 15th of September in Llandudno. Some pre convention events are also being held at The Magic Bar Live on the Thursday night (12th Sept).

This is my first IBM convention and will of course do a write up for this site. Too many things to look forward too but I cannot wait for some of the lectures and the Gala show that features the very talented Aaron Crow. Where else would you get to see this international performer than at this conference? And if you like the line up (see pic), you can also book tickets to see this amazing Gala show which also features the amazing Max Fulham and many others if you do not wish to attend the full convention. Day passes are also available as well as entire convention tickets.

"Get a front row seat or sit at the back depending on your learning style. You’re always guaranteed a good view at a British Ring convention lecture."

If you are interested in attending the IBM British Convention, please visit the IBM site below to register and get your tickets.

"The British Ring convention is totally different from your normal magic meeting. You discover different areas of magic which you may not have thought about & may pursue further. It’s inspiring."

See you all soon!
