John Archer IBM Show (Mini Review)

Last month during the IBM British Ring No 25 Convention 2024 in Llandudno, John Archer joined us and performed for the closing show.

I have seen John perform a couple of times and the first occasion was during the X-Treme Magic tour back in 2022. Being front row, I got picked on at the time and I even ended up with a balloon dog blown up by John which sat in my office for a few weeks.

This time I couldn't believe my luck when I got to join in again and managed to get myself a John Archer zero dollar bill (photo below). I was well chuffed as this now forms part of my collection which is added to a signed photo of him and a signed playing card. The zero dollar bill being part of the famous Penn & Teller: Fool Us routine that he managed to use to fool them.

The show itself was a full show and came in just under an hour. The room was full of magicians as you would expect at a magic convention. John is hilarious live and he had the entire audience in stitches while he worked through various audience members who he interacted with.

The show is full of quick gags, magic routines and hilarious moments with John playing the ukelele while singing shorts. Other than John’s signature routine that he performed at both shows, I got to see different material at each show.

This show was an ideal end to a brilliant weekend of lectures and performances at the IBM convention, before the final closing of the weekend and the new President being appointed (Aidan Heritage).

If I remember, I will have to take the dollar bill to BMC. Hopefully I can then get it signed.

A lot of Johns work is corporate but do keep an eye out for any public shows when he is performing. Well worth watching, a skilled magician, musician and very funny.
