Back in April this year, Magic INC performed at Oadby Royal British Legion. A brilliant and successful show that Magic Seats reviewed. Magic INC consists of Magic Circle magicians Ian Gamage, David Leeson and Pete Whitmore.
The show and the subsequent review was so popular that they are now back with “Their Brand New Show”.
I was able to have a chat with Magic INC during one of their recent rehearsals and planning sessions. To book for the show, please see the details at the end of this post.
Magic Seats - Thank you so much for letting me join you for a chat while you plan for your new show. How is preparation and rehearsals going?
Magic INC - Great to be here with you, and thanks for the opportunity to chat with Magic Seats. Rehearsals are well underway now. We have been putting this new show together since around June this year, initially developing our own individual routines, then coming together for joint rehearsals over the last month or so.
It must be exciting when you all get together. Is it challenging creating and deciding on new material and scripting for the new show?
Yes, developing new material is always a challenge, but one we relish. We each have our own favourite routines, which we go back to time after time, but coming up with a brand new show of all new material is enjoyable as it pushes us to be more creative.
What can audiences attending your show expect to see?
In short, variety. Yes, we are all magicians, but all have completely different styles. The show will be in two parts, and each of us has our own act, lasting approximately 30 mins each, plus an interval. We try really hard to pack as much magic into the time available, so it’s very fast-paced. It’s a bit of a cliche, but there really is something for everyone - from comedy magic, dangerous magic, and psychological mentalism which will really blow your mind!
How did you meet and form Magic INC?
We all met around 8 years ago, as members of our local magic club. We also successfully passed our audition for The Magic Circle around the same time. We formed Magic INC. last year, with a shared vision of bringing live magic to local venues around Leicestershire and the Midlands.
How is the show different from the previous earlier this year?
Basically it’s 100% brand new material. We have all retained our individual magic style, but have worked really hard to ensure that, even if you’ve seen us before, this show will be all original. There is lots of audience interaction, but one of our core principles is to look after any audience member who is kind enough to help us on stage - it’s a golden rule that no one is ever made to look silly. We feel this is important to make sure magic remains popular as a form of live entertainment.
